The Science Center is Philadelphia's innovation hub for the life sciences: part startup accelerator, part STEM education engine, part convener of the region's research community. Its website has to be all three at once.

Untuck led the engagement as principal studio, with design and strategy in their hands. Rootstuff was the development partner behind the build.

The brief

An organization with this many programs accumulates content fast: accelerator cohorts, education initiatives, lab and office space, news, and a constant stream of events. The site needed an architecture where all of it stays findable, and an events system strong enough to carry the organization's role as the place where the ecosystem actually meets.

The build

We developed the platform on Craft CMS, with a content model that mirrors how the organization really works: programs as first-class entries with their own lifecycles, rather than pages that slowly go stale.

The events calendar got particular attention, because it works hardest. Recurring series, registrations, program-linked events, and past-event archives all needed to coexist without the editorial team babysitting them. The system carries the weekly rhythm of the ecosystem: pitch nights, workshops, convenings, and the events that put startups and researchers in the same room.

Where it stands

The platform carries the Science Center's public presence and its events operation. It's the kind of build this studio likes best: a lot of moving parts, arranged so that the people running it barely have to think about them, inside a design that makes the whole thing look effortless.
